2015 Infiniti Q50S Review with video

2015 Infiniti Q50S Review (with video) -

2015 Infiniti Q50S Exterior

When Infiniti launched its original G sedan, the brand began to gain a reputation as "the Japanese BMW "because of its precision handling and V6 engine that loved to rev. Today, Lexus and Cadillac ATS took the place of the 3-series as compact luxury sedans with the highest rebate and the best feeling. That of Japanese BMW then? To answer this question, Infiniti has sent 2015 Q50S with all the options, including the controversial system steer-by-wire.

It is my opinion, the success of the runaway sales series 3 (142,000 sold in the United States alone last year) has more to do with BMW being the ultimate marketing machine, not to the "ultimate driving machine." the 335i of the current generation is certainly fast, but compared to the E36, it is larger, softer, numb, more luxurious and better built than ever before. T his is not a slam because these qualities are exactly why I like the 3 Series more now never before. Instead of chasing after the "old series 3" as Lexus and Cadillac in many ways, Infiniti has decided to create their own definition of the ultimate driving machine.

Before going further, you should remember when Infiniti introduced the Q50 as a "replacement" of the G37, the G37 they kept around and renamed the Q40 (always available as a 2015 model). This is an interesting twist on standards in this segment. Most of the competition simply drops lower output engine in the same vehicle rather than keeping the old model as the alternative discount. This means that the IS 250, 320i, A3 and CLA 250 all begin below $ 37,150 price tag of Q50 and compete more directly with the Q40. Although some have called the Q50 sales of "low", when looking at the whole picture, the Q40 and Q50 handsets have outsold the Lexus IS 250 and IS 350 units by 4000 and, together, are nipping heels of the Lexus ES .

outside
Styled after the Essence Concept Infiniti outside the Q50 combines elegant lines with a huge maw and projectors LED angry flowing. While I know that some of our readers have referred to the Q50 as a "mad fish," I really like the look. I do not think it is as aggressive as the ATS or as refined as the new C-Class, but it is much more distinctive than the 3 Series and A4 and less controversial than the IS 350 F-Sport. For some reason, the side and back of the Q50 remind me a lot of the Mazda6. Let me know what you see in the comments section.

The Infiniti entry in this segment has always been on the large side of things and that continues with the Q50. At 189.1 inches long, the Infiniti is more hair than the Audi A4 and slightly smaller than the sedan 3 Series GT. In case you were wondering, that is still several inches shorter than the Acura TLX and Lexus ES, which are 5-Series size, but 3 Series price.

Interior
Q50 wear the best interior that Infiniti has ever done. Although no hands rubbed the silver dust in the maple trim option Q50 (as in Q70), this cabin is easily one of the best in the segment. The new Mercedes C-Class still has the design and manufacturing domestic crown but the compact Infiniti up the luxury ladder to a place above the Acura TLX and a small cut above the BMW 3 Series. (the Maple trim is only available on high-end fittings.)

Thanks to generous external dimensions of the Q50, we have rear seats with more legroom all sedans comp act luxury, but you will find more space in the 3-GT. Unfortunately, like many compact luxury entrances, rear headroom suffers due sexy side profile of the car. If you expected a large chest you will be disappointed. The trunk of the Q50 has only 13.5 cubic feet, only a hair larger than the Mercedes CLA or BMW 3 Series despite the car being greater in general. If you opt for the hybrid Q50 then boot volume reduced to a decidedly convertible as 9.4 cubic feet, a bit less of BMW ActiveHybrid 3.

2015 Infiniti Q50S Infotainment-003

Infotainment
Q50 is the first Infiniti to receive the new infotainment system InTouch 2-screen that uses both LCD 8-inch touch screen and 7-inch LCD touch screen. Like the Infiniti latest generation systems, you can also control most functions of the system via a button on the controller as the steering wheel. But wait! There is more! Infiniti also includes a new navigation control wheel in the center console behind the gear lever is iDrive and MMI. This gives the driver three different methods to choose from. However, all features are accessible via the steering wheel control or the control wheel, and some options will be "touched".

Some passengers were really puzzled and finally by 2 page layout on the screen, but I adjusted quickly to the software. Although it sounds like the system 2-screen Acura, Infinitis solution is better and thought two touch screens instead of one as in the Acura system . Acura announced goal was to allow you to keep the top for navigation screen while using the lower screen to play with your audio device, but that is only half true that the top screen is required for a large number of audio functions. In the Infiniti, the overlap function between screens is great, so you can browse your media device and performing other select operations via either screen. This level of choice seems to be what confuses some buyers. Ive never seen a car infotainment interface that has so many ways to do the same. On the other hand, the second day, I settled into the system preferring to ignore the controller to the console and use a combination of steering wheel controls and the lower touch screen.

Training
rather than starting with a turbocharged four-banger, Infiniti jumps range of input power and is a standard 3.7 L V6 328 horsepower on all Q50 models. (Other global markets are getting a Mercedes-sourced four-cylinder turbo petrol mill and diesel four-cylinder as well.) 269 lb-ft of torque slits between the engine 2.0L turbo and 3.0L turbo competition. If you need more punch, the Infiniti answer is not forced-induction, but hybridization. The Q50 Hybrid uses the same hybrid system that we first saw in the M35h. D isplacement 3.5L falls and the power to 302 horsepower. The motor is then coupled to an electric motor of 67 horsepower for a combined 360 horsepower and figure undisclosed torque. (I estimate 380-400 lb-ft.)

Both engines are mated to essentially the same automatic 7-speed transmission and a mechanical wheel drive system as an option. The main differences in the hybrid model (except the electric motor) are the addition of a dry clutch between the motor and the 360V AC motor and a wet clutch inside the transmission housing which allows the wheels of be decoupled from the transmission. This allows the batteries to charge while the car is stopped and smooths the changes in EV to gas mode.

Our tester was the model "S" who "sported" brakes sport, sport seats, sport suspension, magnesium levers of change summer tires shifted (245 / 40R19 front and 265 / 35R19 rear). Even with 3675 pounds of curb weight to agitation over Q50S exceptionally well and double wishbone suspension and dampers to keep the dual-mode suspension set on broken pavement. Go for the standard all season rubber and grip is a little lower than the more athletic competition. When Q50 is separated from the pack is in sensation

Lets talk about the elephant in the room :. The optional Adaptive Direct management system. Thats what Infiniti calls their steering system wire in Q50 and, to be perfectly frank, it makes sense to Q50 "game-ish video."

Unless the system detects a fault, there is no mechanical connection between the wheels and steering wheel. If a fault is detected or if the power is off, a firm clutch pack giving a mechanical link. This allows the management system to "compensate" for things like potholes, cross winds, the grooved floor, etc. keeping the wheels have pointed out the direction you indicated by the steering wheel independently minor road inputs. The car can send as much feedback as he wants, but it is kept to a minimum. This reduces driver fatigue on long trips, but the feeling of the car moving slightly in the channel in response to external forces while the wheel does nothing is unusual to say the least.

In addition to the direction -wire system, the Q50 gets "active trace control," which uses the brakes to slow down individual wheels "vectoring" you around the corner. The result of all these systems is also management that could almost be "too specific." In one corner, just eight tenths, you expect to get a slight hint of understeer. You may not even realize that your car is doing this because it is so "normal." The Q50, however, goes exactly where you point, something that takes some getting used to. Infinitis interpretation of philosophy "the ultimate driving machine" seems to be one that favors precision real direction and handling on the feeling and connection.

steering feel aside, the Q50 is absolved well in all other areas. the S accelerates the best in the segment with a second run of 5.05 to 60 in our tester RWD and a 60-0 distance of a rare 111 feet. no S models drive the rear wheels will be a bit slow due to reduced traction. Furthermore, as there was virtually no slip of the wheel in Q50S rear-wheel drive, AWD model will actually slow the 0-60 time by a hair. If you want something faster, the hybrid model will fall below 4.8 seconds. There are some entries faster the Q50 and if you want to get faster highway speeds the Q50 Hybrid, youll be left with just the 335i, C400 and S4.

Fuel economy in the Q50 is similar to other power 300+ entries in this segment, with the exception of e Volvo S60 T6 Drive and BMW 335i which can average in the mid- 20 when driven gently. Go to the hybrid and you can average more than 30 mpg if you keep your high way speeds under 75 mph. The economy is similar to the GS 450h, but 0-60 and passing performance is significantly better.

In 2015, the Q50 starts at $ 37,150, which is closer to the less powerful four-cylinder competition. Its only $ 0 more than in the slow 250, $ 910 more than an ATS 2.0T and manages to actually be $ 350 less than a base 328i. The Audi A4 is a good price from $ 1650 less than the Q50, but you get 108 fewer ponies and they all pranced through the front wheels via a CVT. When it comes to the 300 hp of crowd, the Infiniti is $ 5,000 less than ATS 3.6 and $ 2,000 less than the same Volvo S60 T6. Start adding options to your Q50 and some of the discount narrows, but the Q50 remains the alternative cheap RWD. The Q50 Hybrid is $ 4,400 more than a comparable gasoline Q50, but $ 10,000 less than a comparably equipped BMW ActiveHybrid 3.

If you know me, you know I love a good deal . The word "value" very causes my loins burn. The Q50 is the best value in this RWD luxury segment. Period. We get more standard power and performance, a well-appointed cabin, standard LED lamps and two screens for less with the reasonable expectations of the resale value.

Perhaps the most important thing to know about t he Q50 is director Adaptive Direct is not standard - you must select the "Deluxe Touring Package" to get $ 3.100. On the downside, this package includes real wood trim, auto-dimming mirrors, tilt / telescoping steering column, memory seats, parking sensors and smart camera 360. Not selecting this package gets you a steering rack that is always non-binding, but feels much more traditional. The rumor mill says that the rack hydraulic steering of the G37 is likely to be raised and transplanted in S trim the Q50 for hope in 2016. Let that happen soon.

2015 Infiniti Q50S Exterior-003

Although the ATS and IS 350 are the most dynamic options, I think I might buy the Q50 instead because of its interior system infotainment, performance and price. I must admit I would also like to buy the model with DAS if I could not wait for 2016. No, I do not actually "like" DAS, but I like the features provided with more than I love not. If there is one thing that becomes evident when driving on a hundred cars a year, it is that real buyers adapt to how a car feels much more easily than journalists do. Is strange feeling towards the Q50? Of course, in a comparative sense it is, but youll also get used to it after a few days, then he feels perfectly normal to most buyers. I would not call the Q50 the u ltimate driving machine, but if my money was on the line, I get the AWD hybrid Q50S.
